STRICTLY UNIQUE AND HUNGARIAN! Part 3. - younger and older generations

Wanna breathe fresh oxygen on the city's first green wall and shop some real fine design? Between the Opera and the Basilica, lies a little oasis of Hungarian fine art-design.

Wonder how some fashion designer students can rent a showroom on one of our most beautiful squares? Well, they design noisy coats among other things:)

whats up budapest? party again - regular underground partyguide

Oh, we always go underground in Vittula...
I have never been sure if this story with the bears sleeping - and probably dreaming - through the cold winters is true or not. One thing I know is that people tend to behave like these bears (even if it's maybe a myth only!) in this period of the year. They just love to spend time in their warm beds, sleep a lot and feel sick even from the thought of the freezing cold weather. The city has been quite quiet these weeks, but maybe there's something the coldest-blooded bear should see as well.

'Are you on the list?'
'Which list?'

'The cool list, of course...'

Budapest Duel - hungarian girl vs. guy from New Zealand

Last friday I was invited for a duel with one of the Ambassadors of the Budapest Tourist Office.  The „new colleagues” are requested to represent their country/ nation/ culture and help for their arriving compatriots with tips –where to, what to  etc.

My  partner in the duel was Scott from New Zealand after working in London, Auckland, Buenos Aires, Florence, Beirut, Vancouver and Seoul, he told that his  favourite city of all was Budapest. It always touches me, when someone from abroad just falls in love with Budapest and has decided to move here after living such a great cities….

Whats up Budapest? - Regular Underground Partyguide

Even though the partyguide has always been - and will be - a very enthusiastic promoter of Budapest nightlife, this week we have to mention a very sad story related to our beloved partylife. Last weekend three young girls died in West Balkan at a „teenager party” because of the too big crowd. This article is dedicated to their memories and to safer and happier parties.
This weekend some places cancel their parties to remember the three girls. Maybe the best thing in Budapest is that you can always go to a nice pub to have a great chat with your friends – and some beers of course. Here is „pub-list” for the weekend:
Tűzraktér: Artists, wannabe artists, feel-like artists and other nice people are usually sitting in the rooms of Tűzraktér – which rooms are decorated by the same artists, wannabe artist and nice people. Good music, sometimes nice concerts and exhibitions and the only place in town, where you can have a Club Mate!

STRICTLY UNIQUE AND HUNGARIAN! Part 2. - Siberian Eco Shoes and Eco Lamps

Did you know that flat shoes are sexy and they can be bought in Siberia? No, not in Russia, in the Siberia of Budapest. Let me introduce you to Anna Zaboeva  and her world of shoes.

And did you break your favourit mug, or inherited a too worthy porcelain set? Time to turn them into your unique lamps: cut, glue, dream and switch on the light :)

Alternative Party Guide - On the path of Budapester intellectuals

This week everybody is ill in Budapest more or less. Coughing, sneezing, fever, bed, sleeping. Did too much party las week and year??? No need to worry, just relax a little. Our selection for this weekend for you is chilly program with cafes, spas and museums.

On the path of intellectuals
People here are snobbishly proud of the marvellous intellectual heritage accumulated through the centuries, the relentless vibe, the coffeehouse life of which Budapest is the catalyst, the crown, the motor, the centre, the flame – whatever you like.

Money money funny? history? - interesting discovery of Hungarian coins and banknotes

We all like money :) And we are all scared a little when using foreign currency - is 500 a lot or hardly anything? But have you ever tried discovering those always kind-of-the same serious faces and castles on the banknotes? Since we are still not using the euro - we will take a fast tour in Hungarian history, dropping by at wherever the forint notes take us.

We have endless connections with these almost neighbors Italian  of ours, and one of the liaisons is the name of our currency: forint. The name comes from the city of Florence, where golden coins were minted from 1252 called fiorino d'oro. In Hungary, florentinus (later forint), also a gold-based currency, was used from 1325 under Károly Róbert and several other countries followed its example. The forint was reintroduced in Hungary in 1946 and is our money ever since.

Whats up 2011? - Regular Underground Partyguide

"I will go out every weekend"
"I will check out all the new clubs and pubs in Budapest"
"I will dance when I go out"
I know....typical New Year's pledges. Now some of you might think about not taking them seriously or just drop them at the first time given. Please calm down and don't be silly, the regular partyguide is in your service in 2011 as well: it will help you commit to your party-related pledges! There it goes, the first guide of 2011. Enjoy!
Friday
There will be a special party - in more manners - on Friday night in Mono. Hundred and Twenty People is having Aera from Berlin for those who can't resist dancing to German house music. It is sadly the last night of Mono Klub (some beloved Mono parties will move to Mappa Club), so don't miss the party, make the last night a memorable one!
