Whats up budapest? CARNIVALIA - regular underground partyguide

Okay, there was already a precarnival, and the Carnival of Rio and Venice is just about to start, and I would never dare to compare the period in Budapest to those but still, we are looking forward to a joyful weekend and beware of alive cartoon figure, dead actors and fairies!

Carnival is called Farsang here and all the dancing and celebrating is supposed to make it clear to Mr Winter: Time to go, see you never again! At least, we do not concentrate on this freezing cold but try to figure out what costume to wear. As a child, this heavy responsability was taken off our shoulder by our mothers, so we went as angels, princesses, cowboys, maybe batmans to the kindergarten parties.

THURSDAY
Do you think applied art students have cooler dress ups?? Check them out on MOME Farsang Party in Merlin (quite cool to have your university carnival in Merlin...) while partying to Dj Palotai.. If you play dress up, it will be cheaper.

I  like the concept of dressing up. However, not everyone. Two years ago we stayed 5 minutes in the Farsang party since the place was depressing - we continued celebrating in  "normal" party in Instant, being the only ones dressed up. Liza was being confused for an angel and got tired of explaining she was Marilyn Monore and me embodying Marlene Dietrich was mistaken for "are you dressed up as a guy?", but anyaway, it was an evening where meeting guys/girls got easy:)

FRIDAY
So those longing for carnival mood but not necessarily dressing up, Fogasház's Jugglers Carnival sounds like a good idea. Fogasház's popularity is growing and growing these days, so anyway it is full on the weekends. No need to bring dancing shoes, but bring your mouth to speak, your cool shirt to stand out from the cool crowd and prepare to meet anyone unexpectedly!

If you get bored, you can head over to Corvintető to TESCO DISCO to bounce up and down. I had to learn from the myspace of Tesco disco, that "comedy" is a music genre... Yep, they probably do not take themselves too seriously, neither should you. Take care, urban legend says they are highly addictive.

SATURDAY
Okay, time to dress up and go underground for the Vittula Farsang. Yeah, you guessed it, we really love this place, you know why? Dress up as Madonna and dance on the chair all night, and still nobody will call the police... And still, majority is just absolutely regular citizens here, no decadence at all, please!

I have been waiting for an occasion to recommend Cöxypont Ambient Café for long. Upstairs is always cool and chilling, you practically melt into the colours and materials. Downstairs, the concert room hosts events of random quality. This Saturday, young hip hop and rock bastards will entertain us, might be worth escaping the madding crowd of carnivalists.

And remember, EASTER-40 days is the end of the carnival period here!! We have to keep on moving, dressed up as angels and batmans or less, important is to party.
