However, there is no need for you to start boring as Budapest is already full with Thermal Baths. I was in one of them not long ago for my birthday and I realized again that I definitely should go more often. Or try to get those special tickets from the doctors, so you pay less as you NEED it for your back aches or whatever health problems. I personally believe everyone needs a spa every once in a while - it should be a national prescription.
Already the Romans were enjoying a bath here and there. We have a district named Roman Bath (Rómaifürdő) in North Buda. The habit of going to these places got more popular in Turkish times (17th century) and has not declined ever since. It is perfect for a lovers' romantic evening, for the family's joyful afternoon or to have a nice long chat with a good friend.
The two most famous are Gellért Spa (inside the antique Hotel Gellért) and Széchenyi - there are other hidden ones, worth discovering, but these two are definitely the most beautiful. Széchenyi is one of the biggest in Europe, so that is why in Brussels' Mini Europe it came to depict Hungary :)

You can take sun on their open air terrace, swim in the cold water, boil yourself in the warm and hot thermal pools, or steam yourself till unconsciousness. They also offer every kind of massage you can imagine (have you ever tried chocolate massage?)

And, to the surprise of many foreigners, it is also open in Winter! Yep, you can boil in the water while the snow is falling down from the sky and believe me, it is fun!

In Budapest, we like to reinvent the places a little. Have you ever though of throwing a party in a spa? The Cinetrip group has! The video speaks for itself, these are huge electronic parties with incredible visuals. The Cinetrip group is getting famous worldwide, their last show was in Sao Paolo Brazil.
Usually in Budapest they play in Rudas Bath, whose centerpiece, an eight angled pool under a huge cupola, was built during the Turkish Occupation. It is still one of the most discriminating baths: on 4 days out of 7 of the week, only men are allowed to enter! Tuesday is women's, and the weekend is for everyone. Luckily, on parties even aliens could enter - total tolerance.
Their next show in Budapest is in Rudas 6th November 2010, do not miss it!
