Triptrotters are here! - meet locals in Budapest

If you thought couchsurfing and hospitality club has given the answer to intercultural travelling, you were wrong! Triptrotters are already here in Budapest, find yours and start enjoying staying here in our wonderful city even more!

Shana Zheng and Aigerim Duiseneyeva, two USC business students, had a vision and came up with an idea to never ever see helpless and lost tourists walking around a place. The Triptrotting tagline says: “not just another clueless tourist”. Impossible not to agree..

Essentially, the goals of Triptrotting are to promote international cultural understanding and help build friendships beyond borders.  You are coming to Budapest? You are alone? You do not know anyone here? No problem, Triptotting will find a host for you who will guide you in the local lyfestyle :)

With difference to other similar organizations, in the triptotting community the members are matched based on compatibility.  They aim to bring together people with like-minded hosts, not just any random person with a profile.

When signing up on their site you are also asked to fill out a questionnaire about your interests.

So if you are interested in investment banking and traveling, you will be likely matched with someone in a similar industry and compatible to you based on interest/personality. Like one of their members put it in a nutshell: "Triptrotting is like couchsurfing but better: it's safer and you know that you will be matched with quality people who are like-minded."

Members will have to be referred to join the community.  More so, the membership base is  from top universities and young professionals so there is a sense of safety in the community. This can be a very important point for travellers who might have been feeling uneasy about other similar projects - here you do not have to worry about the background of your host.

What I find very useful on their homepage is that they give you many hints and tips how to approach travelling and hosting in this system, so you can gain confidence easier with this revolutionary travel method.

In the Budapest community, many triptotters come from example from the well-known Corvinus University (the Economics University, famous for great parties and a very active student life). Among their partners, you can find AIESEC (the world's biggest international student organization).

So simple, so good. Just check out their homepage and triptrotting has begun :)
