Last November - when started writing this guide, I designated Budapest as 'the city of open air bars'. Now, as dark winter has gone, the time has really come for the verification of this statement. Cold days seem to be finally over, and as nature wakes up and everything around you gets green, our favourite open-air places open their "doors" as well. This weekend everyone should definitely check in one of these venues, and enjoy the magical feeling of spending the night outside.
In the heart of the 7th district, if you look for something different from the good old Szimpla, you really have to visit this bar. They're open since last weekend, and waiting for you with some Mexican-style food, funny games (such as 'csocsó' - the Hungarian word for tablesoccer), and some light music of course - just to let the neighbors sleep.
If you might feel a little chilly that night - and don't find a nice person to ask for his jacket - you can still visit the dozens of clubs and bars in the close neighborhood.
Have you ever had problems finding the way back to your hostel or apartment in a foreign city? There's just no need to worry, if you book a room in Grandió, and then just spend your night in the garden full of green plants, colorful lamp-shells, paintings and nice people from around the world. I'm sure you'll meet here some nice Hungarians who will be your guide next day, and help you get back to the hostel from wherever you just spend the next night.
Mixart is quite a new bar - or could be called entertainment area - in the most vibrant part of the 8th district. The garden is usually full of university students of different fields - from arts to economics, so it is just a great place to have a drink and chat about the big questions of life. The square - where Mixart is located at - is full of other bars, so you will surely find a place to sit somewhere!
I have already recommended so many parties at Corvintető, but the most attractive feature of that place is probably the open roof, which is waiting for everyone again! The parties - such as this one on Saturday night - are in closed rooms (wannabesleeping-neighbors are everywhere!), but whenever you feel desire for some fresh breath, just go upstairs, have a drink, and feel the famous Budapest wind catching your hair.
If you hear some birds singing, don't worry, everything is OK. Trust me, it is normal of them outside in the nature at about 4.00 -4.30 am.
