Let's swim in the Danube in front of the Parliament!

Let’s reclaim the banks of the Danube in Budapest! - our special proposal, a wonderful initiative:

Would you believe that there used to be a swimming pool in front of the Parliament in
Budapest and everybody was allowed to jump into the Danube? Which animal living in the
river do you think was believed to give magical male power that helps the husband perform
his marital duties? Who were the Danube water sellers? What does a street artist can create
out of two white boxes? Where can you lie down on a giant deckchair in the city center on the
riverbank? If you are curious to find out the answers and want to be amazed by the treasures
the city holds during a lovely walk in downtown, Duna Tanösvény (Danube River Trail) is
waiting for you until the 3rd of October.

Duna Tanösvény (Danube River Trail) has opened on the International Danube Day (29
June). It is a unique walking path along the Danube river bank in Budapest between Margit
and Petőfi bridges. There are 13 stops where the works of young contemporary visual artists,
graphic designers, photographers, street artists, architects tell the story of the Danube's past,
present and imagined future.

Strollers can find ten info points with road sign-like objects, on which old photos, graphics,
cartoons, historical documents, data and stories can be seen of the site and its close
surroundings.

Visitors can obtain information about fish and otter living in the river, legends
of the Danube, water jugglers, architectural and historic past of the riverbank as well as the

direction of future development. At three stops, installations can be seen by which the artists
try to evoke their spectator's feelings and memories.

The info signs are in Hungarian but strollers can enjoy it in English with the help of their smartphones. And there are stops (for instance street art at Batthyány square or STÉG on Belgrade Quay) where you don't need any language knowledge at all to enjoy the project and the view.

At the international pier at Belgrád rakpart (Belgrade Quay), STÉG is waiting for those who
need a rest during the tour. It’s a community place where anyone can play a boardgame, have
a rest, picnic or even a date at the huge deckchairs surrounded by plants. STÉG is open every
day between 10 am to 8 pm. Nothing is served, so you don’t have to buy anything to stay right
next to the water and watch Gellért-hegy on the other side of the river. According to the plans,
once a week STÉG will host programmes, film screenings and concerts.

Those arriving with smartphones will be able to see what may initially meet the naked eye.
A special application is available for them which is based on Layar, the world's most popular
reality browser. Upon downloading Duna Tanösvény, the device will be able to read the QR-
codes on the signs. The visitor can see the map, more detailed info in Hungarian and English,
moreover, he will be able to see what's not even there…

You can walk or cycle between the stops of the Trail, can come alone, with family or friends
anytime. The creators will hold free guided tours until the 3rd of October. The whole project
is free of charge. The STÉG is open everyday from 10 am to 8 pm and there is no admission
free either. Detailed programme guide is available at the project’s website and Facebook page.

The completely free project of Valyo Group and Artopolis Association was initiated so that
the local inhabitants as well as tourists can enjoy and get to know Budapest's biggest natural
treasure, the Danube. Both Valyo and Artopolis have the goal to make people be able to
wonder about in the city in everyday situations, and rediscover its beauty.
