Promising Metropolitan Party Place - SZIKRA

Sunday can be with hangover (másnaposság in HUngarian, meaning "with the next day")
I was in Szimpla (simple), no, sorry, Szikla (rock), no not even that one... Szikra (sparkle), yeah, that's it :) Szikra Cool Tour House has its opening parties series these days and we just had to check it out on this Saturday nigh fever.

We still do not get it what this place was before. Theatre for sure, cinema as well, and than for some period they had random parties or events. Now it is a very retro, yet fancy party place with a huge dancefloor. We were already hungry for something like this!

I was in Milan last week, and when yesterday I stepped inside Szikra, I was pleasantly surprised that it reminded me of the clubs in Milan. Budapest is great in retro style, in cozy angles and very underground clubs but is lacking some parties where you can "JUMP" (my friend, Giovanni liked to point out great parties with this word:)) and are on fire. Szikra, with its naming meaning sparkle, seems to provide some heat and to have filled in this gap. It certainly managed to attract full-house yesterday evening, having opened only recently.

There are some funny weird things which actually only increase the hype of the place. I could not believe my eyes, but at the entrance we had to pass a metal detector???? It was a real one, but the control all the least - even if you beeped you were let in...We came to the wise conclusion that they put it there for pure fun.

And the other charm, like almost a trademark of Budapest nightlife, is the soviet retro atmosphere :D Just look at the staircase, the cloakroom or the glasses and bottles accumulated on the bar, exactly like in a school canteen. We just love this, it is irresistibly trash.

Its position is also very lucky, just on our ring (teréz körút), at Nyugati train station. It looks like a Broadway Cinema entrance, queues are  to be expected.

Lady Gaga performs today in Budapest. If she had arrived yesterday, I wonder, where would she have gone out to party? If in Szikra, she could have had some fun :)
